Here's the Dirt...Revival

Revival

Purveyor of antiquities, luxury gifts and the most uncommon of goods.

Rodney Simmons and Billy Woodall, co-owners or Revival and Revival Studio
are bringing new excitement to Chattanooga!
This fall they will be moving their wonderful shop and design studio to Warehouse Row.
I can't wait to see the magic they will create.
If you've ever been to Revival you know it's like stepping right into
the pages of a magazine photo shoot. Wow!
Revival Studio will also be creating the interior designs for all
common areas inside Warehouse Row.
I've seen just a sneak peak, and it's going to be very elegant and something
Chattanooga has never seen.
Chattanooga is so fortunate to have the many talents of Rodney and Billy.
Their vision is Chattanooga's gain.
Make sure you check out Revival's website

Here's the Dirt...Oats 'N Honey Granola Pie

Everybody is always looking for a new pie recipe. Here's a good one!

Oats 'N Honey Granola Pie

Crust:
1 refrigerated pie crust, softened as directed on box

Filling:
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
3/4 cup corn syrup
1/8 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
3 eggs, lightly beaten
4 Nature Valley granola bars, crushed (2 pouches from an 8.9 oz box)
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1/4 cup quick-cooking or old fashioned oats
1/2 cup chocolate chips
whipped cream or ice cream, if desired

Heat oven at 350 degrees. Place pie crust in a 9" glass pie pan. In large, microwavable bowl, microwave butter on high for 50-60 seconds or until melted. Stir in brown sugar and corn syrup until blended. Beat in salt, vanilla and eggs. Stir crushed granola bars and all remaining filling ingredients into brown sugar mixture. Pour into pie-crust lined pan.

Bake at 350 degrees for 40-50 minutes or until filling is set and crust is golden brown, covering crust edge with foil during the last 15-20 minutes of baking to prevent excessive browning. Cool at least 30 minutes before serving. Serve at room temperature or chilled. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream, if desired. Store in refrigerator. Makes 8 servings.

According to a recent article in New York Magazine, many of the students in PS22 come from struggling families. (Nearly 70 percent qualify for lunch assistance.) 37 year old chorus director Gregg Breinberg, better known as Mr. B, says "there are some kids who come from places where I wish I could just physically move them somewhere else. Horrible backgrounds."

Here's the Dirt...Crunchy Fried Chicken

A special thanks to C&C Bakery for sharing their wonderful recipes with everyone. Those gals are truly special. This is C's famous crunchy fried chicken.

Crunchy Fried Chicken

1 lb chicken (boneless skinless, thin sliced)
salt/pepper
cayenne pepper (just a tad) optional
1 egg
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1/4 cup milk
1 sleeve saltine crackers (crushed)
vegetable or canola oil
honey mustard

(I cut breast in half) sprinkle chicken with salt and lightly sprinkle cayenne pepper on one side. Combine egg, flour, milk, black pepper (if batter is a little thick add a tad more milk). Dip chicken in batter, then in cracker crumbs. Fry (here's the secret, you need to deep fry in a fry daddy) until golden brown. Serve with honey mustard. Deeelish!!

Check back for more delicious recipes from C&C Bakery. Enjoy!

Here's the Dirt...Baked Oatmeal

This recipe was sent to me by my friend, Laura Powell Johnson of Birmingham. Laura tells me it's a healthy recipe that she and her husband love for breakfast. They had a similar baked oatmeal at a B&B in Seattle that they fell in love with.

Baked Oatmeal

3/4 cup sugar (half brown sugar/half splenda)
3 tbs. melted butter
2 1/2 cups milk (maybe even 3 cups)
2 tsp. baking powder
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. cinnamon
3 cups rolled oats
1/2 cup dried fruit (raisins, cranberries, cherries)
1/2 cup chopped almonds or walnuts

Bake at 325 degrees in a baking dish sprayed with Pam. I like to use individual ramekins...will cook in 20 to 25 minutes. A bigger casserole dish will take longer...maybe 45 to 55 minutes. Just cook until the edges start to get golden brown and it is set in the middle. Leftovers are great re-heated in the microwave! Serve with fresh fruit and yogurt. Yum!

Laura says you can also add 1/2 cup applesauce or 1 apple grated.

Thanks for sharing Laura! Enjoy!
